This fund is not to pay legal fees. It may be used to carry out extra investigations to help Kenneth’s case. Small sums may be used to provide the essentials for survival like coffee or sugar, or stamps and envelopes without which Ken would be totally isolated from the outside world. Unlike other prisoners, people on death row Texas are not allowed to work and earn enough for the simple basics of existence. Small comforts must come from friends and supporters – people like you.

If the unthinkable happens and the state takes Kenneth’s life any remaining money will be used to help his daughter get started in a career. Death row prisoners’ families suffer terribly the anguish of years of appeals and the knowledge of an ever closer "date." Along with this, particularly where there are young children, is the hardship that results from the loss of the breadwinner. This causes great distress to all concerned.

You don’t need to get involved in a long correspondence unless you wish to. Prison is a very lonely place. Short messages of support work wonders.Or you can send postcards when you go on holiday. These are much valued. They assure people in prison that the outside world still exists and provide a rare opportunity to feel part of normal life. Your caring can make a huge difference.                                                                                                   

Or you can help raise awareness in your community or church organization or in your workplace about the human Kissues surrounding the death penalty. There are a great many misconceptions about how the death penalty operates, about prisons and the people living in them. It is always helpful to educate ourselves and others about the realities of important social and moral issues that face us; and to help separate the fact from the fiction, in order to support informed debate.
